The census has been taken every ten years since 1801. Most of the first four censuses have not survived at all. It is only since 1841 that it has contained information that has been of help to family historians. From 1851, the census has included relationships and birthplaces. The census for 1901 can be found at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/census whilst the 1881 census transcript can be accessed at www.familysearch.org
